Health Human rights Sexual & reproductive rights (SRHR)About The Organisation
The Initiative for Strategic Litigation in Africa (ISLA) is a feminist pan-African organisation focused on the strategic litigation of women’s human rights and sexual rights both at national levels and within the African human rights system. Our work is based on the belief that strategic litigation is an immensely powerful tool for social change because it helps to reframe the understanding of entitlements before the law and challenges the legal discourse. ISLA seeks to gain ground by creating domestic and regional jurisprudence in women’s human rights and sexual rights; strengthening the capacity of litigators and NGOs on the continent; and conducting rigorous research.
Overview of WorkISLA is seeking to recruit a legal associate to support the Feminist Litigation Network (FLN) across Africa, covering both Anglophone and Francophone regions (West Africa). The legal officer will work under the joint supervision of the FLN’s Anglophone manager and the FWA’s (Francophone West Africa) legal manager, contributing to the development of the network, partner relations, capacity-building activities and knowledge generation within the FLN team.
Minimum requirementsEducation- A law degree (LLB or equivalent).
Experience- Proven experience in human rights law gained through academic research, litigation or programme implementation.
- Knowledge of frameworks relating to women’s rights and/or sexual rights, regional human rights protection systems and feminist advocacy strategies.
- Experience of working with civil society organisations or networks in Anglophone and/or Francophone West Africa contexts.
- Ability to manage and coordinate projects both independently and as part of a team.
Skills- Strong legal research and writing skills, with the ability to produce high-quality outputs within deadlines.
- Analytical mind and attention to detail.
- Understanding of constitutional, regional and international human rights law.

Digital rightsAbout GRIT and this role
GRIT is a feminist technology organisation that builds community-co-created Al to advance gender rights, safety and justice. We are building a dedicated, women-of-colour-led feminist-tech team. The Al Technical Lead is the senior technical role at the centre of that move — owning what we build, how we build it, and how we measure whether it actually helps. The vision is to grow this technical team into both a pipeline for young African women in Al and a sustainable income stream for GRIT. This is a feminist-tech role. In addition to investment in the technology, we are looking for excitement about the team, data practice, and metrics tracking how we support those we serve. We are excited to hire a technical leader who embodies GRIT’s feminist, Afrocentric and co-creation values.
Purpose
To lead the technical build, deployment and continuous improvement of GRIT’s feminist Al products - primarily (1) scaling Zuzi, our multilingual WhatsApp companion (RAG across 11+ South African languages plus Shona), towards 50,000 monthly interactions and beyond and (2) building inFORMed, GRIT’s new Gen-Al tool that completes protection-order forms, from the ground up. This looks like embedding feminist and Afrocentric principles into both the design and the measurement of impact, grounding everything in community co-creation, keeping GRIT at the frontier of Al, and growing a team and a fellowship-and-services model that serves young African women and generates income for the organisation.
Person Specification- Senior, hands-on experience building and deploying production LLM / Al systems (RAG, prompt engineering, evaluation, deployment).
- A genuine self-starter who stays at the frontier of Al without external direction.
- Deep, demonstrated commitment to feminist, survivor-centred and community-co-created technology.
- Enthusiasm for and ideally experience with Afrocentric / contextualised approaches to Al design and impact measurement.
- Track record of leading technical delivery and mentoring more junior engineers and fellows.
- 5-10+ years software engineering (ideal: strong Python and distributed systems experience)
- 2-4+ years ML/AI
- Shipping production systems
- Experience owning architecture
- PhD or published papers in theoretical ML

- Organisation type: Inter-governmental
- Remote option: Not Specified
- Right to work requirements: Not specified
- Remuneration: Remuneration not disclosed
- Length of contract: Temporary/ Fixed-term
GBV / VAWG PSEA/ SafeguardingEstablished in 1951, IOM is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.
Context:
Under the project “Enhancing the 4Ps Approach to Counter Trafficking in Mauritius”, IOM is supporting the Government of Mauritius to strengthen a whole-of-government and whole-of-society response to trafficking in persons, focusing on prevention, protection of victims, prosecution of offenders, and partnerships.
Output 1.3 of the project aims to strengthen gender-sensitive and victim-centred approaches to assistance by enhancing national systems and capacities to provide comprehensive, coordinated, and rights-based support to victims of trafficking (VOTs), including women, men, and children.
Mauritius currently operates separate shelter arrangements for male and female VOTs; however, the existing system presents several challenges. These include outdated or limited standard operating procedures (SOPs), inconsistencies in shelter management practices, gaps in specialized and referral services, varying levels of institutional capacity among service providers, and the need for more structured, coordinated, and gender- and child-sensitive approaches to victim assistance. Furthermore, existing referral pathways between government institutions, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders require strengthening to ensure timely and appropriate access to comprehensive care.
In this context, IOM seeks to engage a consultant to undertake a comprehensive assessment of national capacities to support VOTs in Mauritius, including shelter management, service provision, and coordination mechanisms. Building on the findings, the consultant will develop actionable recommendations to enhance gender and child-sensitive, victim-centred assistance. The consultancy will also support the development of updated shelter management guidelines and SOPs, the establishment of a functional network of service providers to facilitate effective referrals to specialized support services, and the design, implementation, and evaluation of a gender-sensitive Training of Trainers (ToT) programme on shelter management and victim assistance.
Required Qualifications and ExperienceEducation- Advanced university degree in Social Sciences, Law, Human Rights, International Development, Economics or related fields
Experience & Skills- Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in counter-trafficking, victim assistance, capacity assessments, and/or capacity-building initiatives.
- Proven experience in conducting assessments, developing policy or guidance documents, and formulating actionable recommendations.
- Demonstrated experience in designing and delivering training programmes, including Training of Trainers (ToT), and evaluating training outcomes.
- Strong facilitation, consultation, and stakeholder engagement skills, including experience working with government, civil society, and private sector actors.
- Experience in developing or strengthening referral mechanisms or service provider networks is an asset.
- Familiarity with the trafficking in persons (TIP) context in Mauritius or similar contexts is an asset.
