Gender-based violence (GBV)

ROLE PURPOSE:
The Gender Equality and GBV Intern will be integral to Save the Children's East and Southern Africa Regional Office. They will provide support to Gender Equality and GBV teams, focusing on promoting gender equality and social inclusion across the region. The intern will work closely with the Gender Equality and GBV team, contributing to research and analysis, program design, knowledge management, and administration.
KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
Research and Analysis:
- Conduct thorough research on gender equality, women's empowerment, and gender-based violence.
- Analyze data and trends related to GBV to inform program design, advocacy, and awareness campaigns.
Capacity Building and Training:
- Assist in developing training materials, resources, and tools for capacity building on gender equality and GBV prevention.
- Contribute to organizing and facilitating workshops and training sessions for staff, partners, and beneficiaries
Advocacy and Awareness:
- Support the development of advocacy materials and campaigns to raise awareness about gender equality and GBV.
- Contribute to the planning and implementing of events to engage communities and stakeholders in GBV prevention efforts.
Field Engagement and Support:
- Participate in field visits to project sites to better understand gender dynamics and GBV issues on the ground.
- Collaborate with field staff to identify strategies for integrating gender-sensitive approaches into programming.
Program Integration:
- Collaborate with the Thematic sector and other cross-cutting themes teams to mainstream gender and GBV perspectives across program design and implementation.
- Assist in developing monitoring mechanisms to track progress on gender equality and GBV-related outcomes.
Data Management and Reporting:
- Help collect, organize, and analyze data related to gender equality and GBV outcomes.
- Contribute to preparing reports, case studies, and communication materials highlighting project achievements and challenges.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Recently completed degree or studying for a degree course in gender studies, international development, social sciences, or a related field.
Previous coursework, volunteer experience, or internships related to gender equality or GBV programming is a plus.Strong passion for gender equality, women's rights, and addressing gender-based violence.
Basic understanding of gender and GBV concepts, theories, and practical implications.Excellent research, analytical, and organizational skills.
Excellent computer skills, especially in MS Excel spreadsheets, PDF, and MS Word required
High level of integrity and ability to work as part of a professional teamExcellent communication, process, and time management skills.
Proven ability to handle a challenging workloadCross-cultural experience, understanding, and sensitivity;
Strong/ Excellent interpersonal, networking, written and oral communication and re/presentation skills;English fluency (written and verbal) is required
