We are seeking experienced External Grants Assessors with specialist knowledge of work addressing Violence Against Women and Girls to assess applications for grants up to £160,000, to be delivered over a three-year period. Applicants must have excellent analytical, written and verbal communication skills, good knowledge of the voluntary and community sector and a strong understanding of the issues linked to violence against women, related intersectional protected characteristics and the types of appropriate intervention and support.

Role and responsibilities
With recent experience of grant assessment, preferably for London’s grassrootsorganisations, your role will be to assess applications to The London Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime’s (MOPAC) Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) Grassroots Fund 2027-2030 in accordance with LCF’s grantmaking criteria as well as the specific programme criteria and priorities.

As an External Assessor, you will undertake a detailed assessment of shortlisted applications, providing an independent and critical view of the strength, credibility and risks of each application. You will be expected to draw on the full range of information available to you to analyse, rather than summarise the application, without the use of AI. You will have excellent analytical, written and verbal communication skills, good knowledge of the voluntary and community sector of London and a strong understanding of the issues linked to violence against women, related intersectional protected characteristics and the types of appropriate intervention and support.

Assessors will need to:
• Support applicants, via telephone and email, to provide further information about their organisation/project to make a case for a grant
• Identify issues that need to be pursued in order to give a full picture of the project or the organisation
• Clarify information from the application materials, identifying and filling in gaps as necessary by gathering additional information to address key areas not covered in the application materials
• Provide analytical, comprehensive and proportionate assessment reports for presentation to the recruited panel of experts, evaluating the strengths and weaknesses of an application
• Include any useful feedback that can be provided to applicants, regardless of whether or not they are successful in securing funding
• Make recommendations on applications, including identifying relevant conditions, where needed

Assessors should:
• Liaise regularly with Strategic Programme Manager (VAWG)
• Ensure work is completed to deadlines agreed with LCF
• Be available to answer further questions following completion of assessments
• Complete two to three assessments for one day of work
