Gender-based violence (GBV) Political participation
The Accelerator for GBV Prevention is looking for a Policy & Advocacy Consultant to provide high-quality policy analysis and development of advocacy strategies to advance the Shared Advocacy Agenda. The Consultant will work closely with the Director to develop advocacy materials targeted at Bilaterals, Multilaterals, implementing Governments, and Philanthropy (private & public) and identify relevant advocacy moments for engagement throughout 2023.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Working with the Director, the Consultant will undertake the following responsibilities:
  • Research, identify, and develop short- and long-term advocacy strategies and actions to advance the Shared Advocacy Agenda, including engagement at the UN General Assembly 2023, SDG Summit, and other policy spaces
  • Prepare written narrative and analytical briefs, memoranda, summaries, and talking points on advocating for more and better funding for gender-based violence prevention
  • Conducts research and statistical analysis of GBV Prevention policy issues, and tracks emerging funding trends and opportunities for funding
  • Work with the Communication team to develop and produce consistent, thoughtful, and timely advocacy materials such as policy briefs, and position statements, for a range of audiences - especially governments and donors.
  • Together with the Director, Identify, track, and participate in strategic policy and advocacy

  • And other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Selection criteria:
How to apply
  • University degree in social or political science, development economics, gender studies, or other relevant degree and/or relevant work experience in advocacy and policy;
  • Extensive and hands-on experience in developing policy positions, analysis, and advocacy
  • strategies on gender equality, preferably linked to development financing.
  • Extensive experience and knowledge of working with donors /governments and/or multilateral agencies and working in international global policy spaces.
  • In-depth understanding of current global policy discussions on gender equality/ GBV and the key bilateral, multilateral, and/or philanthropic supporting this work.
  • Experience translating complex research on gender equality, including addressing gender-based violence into policy materials for non-research audiences (e.g. media, policymakers, etc)
  • Strong networks and experience in engaging and/or working with feminist organizations,
  • women’s rights organizations, and institutions, especially in global majority countries as well as the dominant narratives and tensions on GBV within feminist movements globally
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills, including presentation skills; superior
  • problem-solving, managerial, and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to work independently, with strong time management, planning, and organizational
  • skills, close attention to detail and accuracy, reliability, flexibility, and follow-up.
