Human rights
As a Grants Strategy Associate, you will support grantmaking and grants management for WFA’s portfolios, focusing on a specific sub-region (South Asia, Southeast Asia, or East Asia) and key grantmaking programmes. You will bridge the gap between strategy and execution, working closely with grantee-partners and contributing to resource mobilization and communication.
Responsibilities
1. Grants Strategy & Management
a. Design and implement outreach activities for grant applications from the assigned sub-region (South Asia, Southeast Asia, or East Asia) and grants programmes.
b. In collaboration with the Grants Strategy Senior Manager, design, prepare, and implement country-specific/sub-regional calls.
c. Carry-out the technical review of grants applications, particularly focussing on those submitted from the assigned sub-region and specific assigned grants programmes, conduct reference checks for potential grantees, and develop recommendation notes, programme plans, and budgets for selected grantees.
d. Provide support to the Grants Strategy Senior Manager and thematic leads on assigned grants programmes.
2. Resource Mobilisation, Networking, Strategic Communications, and MEL
a. Provide latest research and information on feminist movement building and organising in the region with a focus on the assigned sub-region/grants programmes, including development of country, sub-regional, and constituency-based profiles, to inform WFA’s grantmaking strategy and outreach.
b. Coordinate with the Lead for Strategic Partnerships to contribute to the development of content related to WFA’s grantmaking and grantees in the region, particularly focusing in the assigned portfolio, for donor proposals and reports, the WFA annual report, and reports to the Board.
c. Coordinate with the Lead for Strategic Communications, to contribute to the development of content on WFA’s grantmaking and grantees in the assigned portfolio aligned with WFA’s communications strategy, including for the website and social media.
Knowledge & Skills Required
a. University degree in social sciences, women’s rights, international development, or other related fields.
b. Minimum of 3 years’ experience related to grantmaking, grants management, and/or programme management in women's, girls, trans, and intersex human rights in Asia, particularly in the assigned sub-region.
c. Knowledge of feminist movements and organizing in Asia, particularly in the assigned sub-region, and familiarity with sub-regional economic, political, social, and cultural trends.
d. Familiarity with budgeting and financial reporting.
e. An understanding of and commitment to working towards the realisation of women's, girls, trans, and intersex human rights in Asia.
f. Ability to communicate well in English and one other regional language; fluency in more than one regional language an asset.
g. Excellent project management skills with attention to detail and ability to multitask, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines.
h. Ability to work independently and be self-motivated.
i. Ability to work with mutual respect with different nationalities and communities in an international and multicultural environment.
j. Able to travel locally and regionally.
