Background
Building support from individual donors and values-aligned corporate supporters is an increasingly important part of ILGA World’s long-term sustainability and independence. As part of ILGA World’s 2025–2029 strategic plan, strengthening the organisation’s internal capacity and resilience depends not only on programme funding, but also on flexible income that can help sustain core functions, respond quickly to emerging needs, and support movement infrastructure over time.

ILGA World’s fundraising context is shaped by a rapidly changing global environment for LGBTIQ human rights. Government funding is increasingly influenced by political shifts and geopolitical priorities, while many philanthropic foundations are moving towards shorter grant cycles and more restrictive requirements. Corporate giving has also become more complex, with some companies reducing visible support for LGBTIQ rights in response to politicised backlash. These trends increase volatility for the movement and underline the importance of diversifying income and growing sources of support that are less dependent on public funding cycles.

Requirements
Education and qualifications
  • A post-graduate degree, diploma, or equivalent training in a relevant area such as fundraising, communications, marketing, community organising, international development, or human rights and at least five years of relevant experience in individual giving, donor engagement, and/or corporate support.

  • A first-level university degree, or equivalent, in a relevant field and at least seven years of relevant and qualifying experience in fundraising, supporter engagement, and income generation
  • or

  • At least nine years of relevant and qualifying experience in fundraising, supporter engagement, donor stewardship, and income generation, in lieu of a degree
  •  
    Experience
    • At least 5 years of relevant experience in individual giving, donor stewardship, supporter engagement, and/or values-aligned corporate support, ideally within civil society, social justice, humanitarian, or human rights contexts
    • Demonstrated experience planning and delivering fundraising campaigns (for example, annual appeals, monthly giving, or rapid response appeals), including drafting supporter communications and coordinating timelines and inputs with colleagues
    • Experience building and maintaining donor journeys and stewardship practices, including welcome processes, stewardship systems, impact updates, and reactivation of lapsed supporters
    • Experience using fundraising tools and databases, including familiarity with online giving platforms (for example, GlobalGiving and Donorbox or similar) and maintaining accurate donor records with appropriate attention to data protection and consent
    • Experience supporting mid-size gifts and major gift cultivation, such as identifying prospects, preparing briefing materials, coordinating follow-up, and contributing to donor retention
    • Experience supporting or managing values-aligned corporate support, including donor research, preparation of supporter offers, and working with due diligence or risk screening processes where relevant
    • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in multicultural and international environments, including collaborating across time zones and with colleagues and partners in different regions
    • Strong writing and communication skills, including the ability to produce clear, respectful, movement-appropriate content for diverse audiences and to adapt tone and format for individual donors, corporate supporters, and internal stakeholders
    • Experience working collaboratively across functions, particularly with communications and finance, to ensure consistent supporter messaging, timely acknowledgements, and accurate income tracking and reporting.
