LGBTQ+ Centre and Events Manager
The Proud Trust is the custodian of The Proud Place, Manchester’s purpose built LGBTQ+ community centre. On the site of the original footprint of the 1988 built “Gay Centre”, The Proud Place was rebuilt and reopened in 2022, now over three floors and clad in gold, a beacon of hope for the LGBTQ+ community of Manchester and beyond.
We are looking for a passionate, enthusiastic and entrepreneurial person to join our team. A person who can positively engage our community and is strategic in the development of events, activities and opportunities that happen within The Proud Place, with a view to future sustainability – environmental, social and financial. With income generation targets to make the role financially sustainable in the long-term, you will be responsible for creating a thriving sober community space, through a blend of free and paid events that respond to our communities needs and interests. As well as someone who has experience of organising, promoting and delivering inclusive events, we are also looking for someone who has a strong foundation in building management as you will be overseeing the day-to-day maintenance and ensuring the building’s compliance.
Overall Purpose of the Role:
You will work collaboratively with colleagues across the team to ensure that The specific needs and interests of the LGBTQ+ community shape the Proud Place's operations, events, activities, and opportunities. This varied role involves managing and maintaining The Proud Place's functions, including health and safety responsibilities, and engaging with community group users and other stakeholders to ensure our spaces run smoothly. The ultimate requirement for this role is to ensure The Proud Place's environmental, social, and financial sustainability and to maximise its potential as a queer sober space. As such, this role will have income-generation KPIs. This role focuses on generating income through strategic venue hire, paid events, partnerships, and community-led enterprise models, ensuring The Proud Place becomes a financially resilient and thriving community asset.
Experience and Knowledge
At least three years’ experience in a management role (preferably in the voluntary/not-for-profit sector or able to demonstrate transferrable skills from another sector).
Experience of managing a building
Experience with managing volunteers
Experience of setting up and maintaining systems E Experience of inclusive project and events management
Experience of developing and delivering social enterprise and income generation strategies (venue hire, paid events, partnerships)
Experience of undertaking monitoring and reporting for grant funded projects (or able to demonstrate relevant transferrable skills from another sector)
Experience of designing and delivering tiered event models D Experience of community consultation, co‑production or participatory programme design
Experience of utilising client monitoring system, recording and producing reports and using this to inform future work/ learning
Experience of business development, partnership negotiation or commercial relationship management
Experience of promoting and raising the profile of projects, organisations or campaigns
