Org. Setting and Reporting
The United Nations Environment Programme is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment.
Responsibilities
a) Coordinate and monitor implementation of activities related to EmPower-II programme (joint programme between UNEP and UN Women), specifically with respect to gender equality aspects in energy and climate actions, and as per the output budget and funding
b) Coordinate and leverage strategic national and regional partnerships including with the private sector and financial institutions, institutions working on gender equality, renewable energy and climate change thematic areas for high-quality project implementation.
c) Develop and lead comprehensive stakeholder engagements for women’s entrepreneurship for renewable energy,
d) Mobilize private sector investments and establish financing instrument to facilitate women’s access to energy enterprise opportunities in renewable energy projects, explore opportunities for partnership and resource mobilization.
e) Lead the design of training programme and skill development programme for climate resilient livelihoods through renewable energy women's economic empowerment as well as for job opportunities in the context of just transition.
f) Contribute to the communications of the project with substantial technical inputs, policy analysis and briefs, with timely delivery and documentation of the project impact.
g) Support the implementation of renewable energy, gender and climate change related activities within project outputs, specifically on mainstreaming gender and inclusivity in national climate change frameworks and policies.
h) Strategic project planning support of the regional and national project activities addressing equitable renewable energy access and women’s entrepreneurship into effective programmes and results.
i) Mobilise intra-Asia regional and interregional dialogue on gender equality, climate change, inclusive energy access and bring global level attention to the regional implementation
j) Provide substantial technical support to the development of national strategies and gender responsive energy sector policies in the selected countries in consultation with national governments.
k) Produce policy assessments of SDG 7 and SDG 5 implementation at national levels.
l) Organize and/or support project team on national workshops related to climate resilient development.
Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications
- Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in economics, political science, gender studies, engineering, energy science and technologies or or environment, or energy economics or business administration or related field. A first-level university degree in any of these fields, in combination with two additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
- A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in field of gender and climate change and environment, policy analysis and development is required.
- Experience on project design and implementation, as well as hands on experience of working with communities and women is required.
- English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
