Brief description of the Alliance
The Alliance for Gender Equality in Europe is a donor collaborative created in 2021 to support progress for gender equality and women’s rights in Europe. It is composed of Bodossaki Foundation, Fondation CHANEL, Fondation de France, Fondation Raja, JP Morgan, King Baudouin Foundation and L’Oréal Fund for Women and hosted by the Network of European Foundations.
Context and objectives of the consultancy
The Alliance for gender equality in Europe funds small and medium size organisations working with the most marginalised people across Europe. While most of our grantee partners are in direct contact with people with vulnerabilities, only a few have formalised policies on safeguarding. As gender equality experts, most of them have a very good understanding of power dynamics and are addressing it through rather unformalised safeguarding practices. As a grant maker, the Alliance is currently using a safeguarding framework by the Network of European Foundations (NEF), our host organisation.
The objectives of this consultancy will be to: - revise and enhance our safeguarding processes towards the Alliance grantee organizations we partner with, while making sure they are actionable and realistic given our team and our grantees capacity - increase the knowledge and transfer of good practices on safeguarding within the Alliance team and our grantee partners
Scope of work
The consultants will support the Alliance with 3 different work packages:
1. Team training on safeguarding
Deliverable recommended (we are open to the consultant alternative ideas):
- Prep work of around 1-2 days to understand the state of play of the Alliance and its grantees current practices (whistleblowing mechanisms, governance structure, internal reporting …)
- October 24: Half a day training (+ handing out materials).
2. Support to streamline safeguarding further in our due diligence and monitoring/capacity development work
Deliverables:
- By mid-November 24: Revised due diligence and monitoring process integrating safeguarding questions
- In 2025: scenario proposal on how to integrate safeguarding in our Funding+work
3. Creation and delivery of an awareness raising session on safeguarding for the Alliance grantee partners
Deliverable:
• Second half of 2025: 1 awareness raising session with grantee partners, focus to be jointly defined.
Successful candidates for this offer will respond as much as possible to the following profile:
Essential:
Expertise in safeguarding
Knowledge of the philanthropic sector and civil society organisations.
Good understanding of gender equality ecosystem in Europe.
Excellent English communication skills
