Position Summary
The Programme Officer, India has primary responsibility for a programs and grants portfolio in India. They will lead and manage this portfolio including capacity strengthening and learning with partner organisations. They will report to the Programme Director based in Delhi, India.
Primary Responsibilities
The duties that follow represent the primary responsibilities for this role. All employees are responsible for performing other duties as assigned. Primary responsibilities for this role include the following:
Grantmaking:
- Contribute to and maintain country strategies to guide grantmaking decisions
- Pro-actively source and screen potential new partners
- Recommend new partners, conducting due diligence
- Review and negotiate proposals and budgets with prospective and current partner organisations.
- Present recommendations to Grants Committee
- Plan and undertake visits to existing and prospective partner organisations
- Review analyses of grants’ final reports; provide feedback, and summaries for the board, staff, and EMpower communication materials, and cull lessons learned to be shared with others.
Program Learning and Capacity Building:
- Enable, facilitate and share lessons across EMpower partner organisations and programme experience through webinars, panels, articles, social media, etc
- Enable and facilitate capacity building with and across partner organisations; plan and support learning exchanges among partners; review or co-develop content for programme learning products.
- Co-lead capacity-building initiatives for girls such as the Girls Advisory Council, Alumni engagement, participatory grantmaking, and the Adolescent Girls Learning Community.
- Co-create and coordinate collaborative learning opportunities for partner organisations and youth to share ideas, and practices and leverage learnings from each other
- Responsible for reporting and maintaining documentation of the Collaboratory.
Management, Visibility, and Organizational Development:
- Represent EMpower, the respective grant, and our capacity-strengthening portfolio at annual, and regional events, when required
- Provide programmatic content for proposals and reports to EMpower donors; facilitate occasional visits by directors/donors to partner organisations
- Work closely with the regional development officer, and serve as a relationship manager to regional stakeholders such as EMpower board members and institutional donors as and when required
- Proactively manage ongoing regional stakeholder meetings, engagement, and relationships.
- Network with other funders and international organisations regarding potential partnerships and/or collaborations.
Knowledge, Skills, Values, and education
The Programme Officer spearheads grantmaking efforts to improve the lives and horizons of marginalized young people aged 10-24 in emerging market countries. The education, knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position are as follows.
Work Experience
- At least 5 years of professional experience in the philanthropic and /or non-profit sectors in the India region required
- Professional experience in grants management is strongly desired.
- Experience with youth empowerment, adolescent girls, gender equality, and youth programming related to reproductive and sexual health, education, or economic well-being strongly desired.
