Responsibilities
• Researches and collects information pertaining to human rights matters, including their gender dimensions from a variety of data sources (e.g. communications, publications, the press) to keep abreast of issues/events and provide up-to-date information; assists in the analysis of information, to include the impact on the countries and thematic mandates on the human rights situation in assigned area. 
• Drafts Gender Equality Strategy (including work plan and monitoring framework) for the HCT to endorse and apply; 
• Provides technical guidance on presenting gender analysis and GEPie recommendations to the HCT; 
• Provides technical assistance to HCT´s and donors on designing and monitoring gender equality programming and projects; 
• Offers technical assistance to HCTs in the region (North of Central America) with limited gender capacities to address lack of resources and to promote joint humanitarian Responses to women, girls, and LGTBIQ+ 
• Delivers technical assistance on designing gendered needs assessments, undertaking gender analysis, tailoring programming, and developing and monitoring indicators; 
• Offers technical assistance on analyzing gendered data, reporting on results and tailoring strategies; 
• Provides technical assistance on setting minimum gender commitments and coordinating collective actions to monitor and review; 
• Ensures assistance and training is provided to the GECiE WG to provide HCT and clusters with competent advice on GEPiE throughout the HPC; 
• Ensures technical assistance is provided to the GECiE WG on applying GEPiE tools and skills in buildings capacities; 
• Participates in dialogues regarding local GEPiE practices and frameworks with local authorities, local NGOs and civil society; 
• Ensures technical advice is provided on how GP CSOs can influence the decisions of the HCT and clusters as thought leaders on gender equality, including access, scope and resources; 
• Promotes links between Nexus actors; 
• Assists humanitarian actors on how to engage affected diverse groups during needs assessment, design, implementation, monitoring and review, taking into account gender analysis; 
• Participates in hearings and consultations; prepare summaries of results. 
• Maintains awareness of current human rights issues, to include relevant political and legal developments in the country(ies) concerned. 

Competencies
  • A first-level university degree in gender studies, social sciences, or a related field. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.  Successful completion of both degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics, or data science is an advantage.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible experience working on gender equality issues in the local context or related area is required.    Experience in working with humanitarian and/or development projects in managing or coordinating services and support is required.    Experience in facilitating training and capacity building on gender equality and/or communicating with communities is desirable.
  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in both English and Spanish is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
