LITIGATION STRATEGY DEVELOPMENT
- Monitor litigation cases at national level and other relevant legal developments, through regular communication with national LGBTI organisations and partners, with a view of identifying opportunities for strategic litigation at EU level
- Monitor legal developments related to equality law at EU in order to identify opportunities and challenges that may have an impact on the advancement of CJEU case law related to human rights of LGBTI people within the EUlegislative framework.
- Carry out legal research, and develop legal briefings and other relevant materials related to strategic cases to inform interventions of pargovernment and institutional allies before the CJEU
- Support LGBTI organisations in bringing cases to the CJEU, including by providing guidance on the development of arguments and the drafting of legal complaints on the violations of EU legal framework in relation to the human rights of LGBTI people.
- Actively contribute with the Advocacy Director and Senior Strategic Litigation Officer to developing strategies linking litigation to ILGA-Europe’s advocacy priorities and to advise on advocacy strategies to achieve change stemming from litigation.
- Ensure regular communication with LGBTI organisations and partners at national level with a view of raising awareness about strategic litigation opportunities at EU level and identifying promising cases at national level
ADVOCACY AND STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS TO SUPPORT LITIGATION
- Monitor the implementation of European case law, and where needed, develop and implement strategies to support effective implementation at national and European levels
- Develop and coordinate advocacy strategies around cases brought before the CJEU and infringement procedures with a view of mobilising political support for cases from EU institutions and member states
- Facilitate information exchange and peer learning for EU member states to support their engagement in strategic cases at the CJEU through written and oral interventions
- Develop tools and materials to support equality bodies, human rights institutions and NGOs in strengthening their engagement in support of litigation cases and infringements procedures relating to the human rights of LGBTI people
STRENGTHENING OF LITIGATION CAPACITY OF LGBTI ORGANISATIONS
- Carry out capacity building activities for LGBTI organisations and relevant partners, including training seminars, coaching and production of written materials.
- Develop mechanisms to facilitate peer learning and knowledge exchange amongst LGBTI groups on litigation with EU court
