Movement building
Do you want to help steer the UK into a more inclusive, feminist-focused future?
We want to work with a collective of diverse young feminists across the UK who will design and build campaigning efforts to drive forward global gender equality as leaders of the Walking the Talk programme.
The Walking the Talk programme wants to boost the adoption and implementation of Feminist Foreign Policies and gender equality in Germany, France, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and the European Union. The programme advocates for more Official Development Assistance (ODA) dedicated to gender equality and women’s rights.
Working hand in hand with young people, we will advocate for inclusive foreign policies that champion gender equality and reflect the voices of women and LGBTQIA+ people from the Global South (or Majority World as we prefer it).
What could you be working on?
As a Steering Group member you will:
- Play a leading role in designing and driving forward a strategy to propel UK commitments to gender equality.
- Engage directly with a range of stakeholders through various advocacy actions.
- Work across the international development sector on these issues, specifically with those from the Majority World, to ensure policies reflect the voices and experiences of those who are affected.
- Build a wider network of young feminists, supporting them to take action.
- Co-design a ‘congress’ event, which brings together young feminists from across the UK for: discussions, training, networking and a range of speakers.
We are looking for young people who:
- Are aged 18-25 and living in the UK.
- Are passionate, intersectional feminists.
- Are willing and capable of dedicating themselves to a 12 month project, with the potential for a longer-term commitment depending on campaigning actions.
- Are able to set aside an average of 10 hours a month for this project.
- Have some experience of, or interest in, gender equality work/research/UK policy/youth-led change/events leadership/community organising. Any other relevant experience is great too.
Here at Restless Development we want to move away from the traditional thinking of ‘experience’- we are most interested in how passionate you are about gender equality and changing our world for the better. You are an expert in your own lived experience and this can not be measured. We are looking for active members of their communities, ready to make a difference, no matter what this looks like.
Identity and lived experience often impact people’s opportunities within changemaking, so we want to ensure that the voices of those who are most impacted by policy change and gender inequality are at the forefront of our campaigning efforts.
This includes people who:
- Are black or from a racially minoritised background
- Are part of the LGBTQIA+ community
- Are care experienced
- Are Young carers
- Have experience of poverty
- Are working class
- Have a disability
- Represent geographically diverse communities across the UK
- Or are often discouraged, or previously unable to, engage in opportunities like this.
